"Rona" my COVID quilt

Since lockdown had us all confined, I decided I wanted to make a quilt to help keep me occupied, like I had nothing to do!!

I wanted to use my large stash of Tula Pink fabrics, which I had been hoarding for way too long and wanted to use an image of the nasty wee virus too. So this is what I came up with:

I traced out my drawing onto some light non woven fusible interfacing, carefully ironed it onto the back of my precious fabric and using the Apliquick method, turned under the edges, very carefully, then hand stitched the shapes onto my background squares.

I had fun choosing the fabrics and the hand sewing kept me busy and my mind focused.

Quilting around the wee buggers was so slow      

Back view I used some biohazard symbols between the blocks but you Cann't really y see them, unless you look at the back, but I know they are there!

The quilt ended up containing 11 x 11 blocks and is about 90 inches square.

Have to say it's one of my favourite quilts that I've made and really sums up my feelings about the whole pandemic. and the lockdowns. 

I felt very privileged to have a job, my kids were safe with me, I have creative spaces to play and mountains of stuff to play with. Something good has to come out of this experience, right!
