Irish Quilters Showcase Exhibition
It seems so long ago that Nikki Foley asked me to help out with National Quilting Week ( the brainwave of Nikki and Penny Barnes). The idea of which is to promote Irish Quilting on a National and International level. Nikki had been offered the Blasket Centre as an exhibition space and generously thought it would be a wonderful idea to showcase Irish quilters work. And that's where I came in! We got together to plan a little and Nikki came up with the perfect title for the exhibition "Wild Atlantic Way" I invited a selection of Irish Quilters to participate and the images below are the results!
Thanks to the hard work of a lot of people, the opening last Friday evening, the 22nd of May was a great success.
Isobel, my ten year old and myself set off from Limerick at lunchtime, and it was only as we hit Co. Kerry and started driving through the mountains that I realised how long its been since I was last down this end of the country. It's so beautiful and this sense of peace and contentment started to envelope me the further into the wilderness we got. And then we hit the mountain top just before the Blasket Centre, so beautiful. The centre itself is wonderful with several permanent exhibitions detailing life on the Blasket Islands which you can see through some of the beautiful windows facing out onto the Atlantic ocean.
